At least five people were injured in a clash between two groups over the newly announced Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal committee at Cumilla Victoria Government College on Monday.
The clash broke out in front of the college's administrative building at around 12:00 PM. Police later brought the situation under control.
The new college Chhatra Dal committee was announced on Sunday, with Omar Faruk Manik named president and Fatin Ishraq general secretary.
Following the announcement, tensions emerged between the followers of Senior Vice-President Omar Faruk and Joint General Secretary Tarek Rahman, according to the report.
The followers of the two leaders clashed after one group held a protest on campus and supporters of the new committee arrived at the college with sweets.
Tarek Rahman, Zubayer Talha and Md Raihan were among the five injured, all of whom are students of Victoria Government College.
Cumilla South District Chhatra Dal President Kazi Zubayer Alam Jilani said organisational action would be taken against those involved in the clash.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Anwar said additional police had been deployed on the campus and the situation was now normal.
