A Dhaka court on Monday placed Jannatul Ferdous Keya, a former vice-president of Bangladesh Institute of Glass and Ceramics unit of banned Chhatra League (CL), on a two-day police remand in an Anti-Terrorism Act case filed with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order after a hearing on a seven-day remand plea filed by the investigation officer, Inspector Masudur Rahman of Tejgaon Detective Division.

According to the case statement, leaders and activists of Awami League, CL and its affiliated organisations held a procession near  Mohakhali Bus Terminal on Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Sarani on June 18, demanding withdrawal of the ban on their activities. Cocktails were allegedly exploded during the procession.

The investigation identified Keya as an active leader of banned CL  and a member of an Awami League Telegram group.

Police said placards, banners, remnants of exploded cocktails and an Android mobile phone had previously been recovered from suspects arrested in the case.

They said Keya needed to be questioned to identify and arrest other suspects involved in the incident and to determine the source of the cocktails.
