Gazi Mazharul Anwar remains forever in our hearts

It is the day of demise of the renowned lyricist, filmmaker and producer Gazi Mazharul Anwar. He died on September 4, 2022, contributing to the field of Bangla music and films with his incredible creations.

In recognition of his contribution, the Artist Club will organise a special programme named ‘Iconic Tuesday’ on September 8 at their lounge in Banani. At 7:30 PM, his wife Johra Gazi and his son Sarfaraz Anwar Upal will recall memories about his life and works. The programme will include some of his songs being performed.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar was born on 22 February 1943 in Daudkandi, Cumilla. He started composing poetry while studying in school and wrote songs for Radio Pakistan from 1964 regularly. His first song for film was written in 1967, for the film Ayena O Oboshishto.

His directorial debut was in 1982 through the film Nantu Ghotok and in total he has directed 41 films. During almost 5 decades, he wrote approximately 20,000 songs. Among his popular songs are: Ektara Tui Desher Kotha Bol Re Ebar Bol, Ek Nodi Rokto Periye and Akash-er Hate Ache Ek Rash Nil.

For his contribution in the field of arts and culture, he has been awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2002 and the Independence Award in 2021 . He has won many National Film Awards as well.
