Pakistani singer Atif Aslam believes the Indian version of Coke Studio lacks the distinctive “magic” that has made the Pakistani franchise popular.
Speaking to Mirchi UAE in a recent interview, Atif was asked what gives Coke Studio Pakistan an edge over its Indian counterpart. He simply replied, “Magic.”
The singer said both countries produce quality music, but the Indian version has become more commercially driven. According to him, Coke Studio Pakistan puts greater emphasis on musical originality and retaining its cultural roots, while giving artists more freedom to express themselves.
Atif has been one of the prominent voices of Coke Studio Pakistan, appearing in several seasons and performing popular tracks including “Tajdar-e-Haram” and “Wohi Khuda Hai”.
The singer also rose to prominence in Bollywood with the 2005 film Zeher, later lending his voice to popular songs including “Tere Bin”, “Pehli Nazar Mein”, “Tu Jaane Na” and “Jeena Jeena”.
After a 19-year gap, Atif recently returned with his new album Subah Aaey Na. He said the album reflects his desire to create music freely without being bound by conventional rules.
