Over 23,000 saplings distributed at Rajsthali

 
KAPTAI, RANGAMATI , Sept 4: The Kaptai Pulpwood Plantation Division distributed 18,600 saplings of various species free of cost among local residents in Rajsthali of Rangamati, aiming to increase greenery and conserve biodiversity in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.

The saplings were distributed at the Rajsthali Range Forest Office premises around 11am on Wednesday under a joint initiative of the Rajsthali, Hnara and Dhanu Chhari ranges of the Kaptai Pulpwood Plantation Division.

Kaptai Pulpwood Plantation Division Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Md Sazzaduzzaman attended the programme as the chief guest, while the Rajsthali upazila nirbahi officer presided.

Abul Hashem Member, representative of Dipen Dewan, MP, and Range Officer Tuhinul Islam were present as special guests.
Fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal saplings were distributed among local residents. The species included amloki, bael, tamarind, areca nut, coconut, mahogany, lohakath, garjan and devdar.

Another 5,000 saplings were also distributed free of cost at the Dhanu Chhari Range in Kaptai Upazila under the same initiative.
Speaking at the programme, DFO Md Sazzaduzzaman said the initiative was taken as part of the national tree plantation campaign and to implement the government's environmental conservation agenda.
