Coaching prohibited from 8am to 4pm in Rajbari: DC

RAJBARI, Sept 5: Rajbari Deputy Commissioner (DC) Afroza Parvin has said teachers will not be allowed to conduct coaching classes or private tuition from 8am to 4pm while schools and colleges remain open.

Teachers receiving government salaries and allowances must properly perform their duties in classrooms during the period, she said.
However, teachers may conduct coaching classes in line with the relevant policy and at the prescribed fees, but only after 4pm, she added.

She made the remarks at an exchange meeting held in Rajbari to discuss improving the quality of secondary and higher secondary education and developing students with strong moral and humanitarian values.

The district administration organised the meeting in the conference room of the DC office on Thursday afternoon, with the DC in the chair.

Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police Shamsul Haque, Additional District Magistrate Shankar Chandra Baidya, Rajbari Government Adarsha Mohila College Principal Rizvi Jamal, Rajbari Government College Principal Mostafa Kamal, Pangsa College Principal Mohammad Ayub Ali, Goalanda Government Kamrul Islam College Principal Mohammad Nazir Hossain Molla and heads of various educational institutions spoke at the meeting.

The DC said students should not be promoted to the next class if they fail to pass all subjects in their current class.

Heads of various educational institutions raised several problems affecting the quality of education, including teacher shortages.

They said teacher shortages at several government high schools in the district were negatively affecting examination results. Many schools have no teachers for mathematics and English, they said.

Besides, students in remote areas are being deprived of practical science education as most secondary schools lack laboratories, they added.

Rizvi Jamal, Principal of Rajbari Government Adarsha Mohila College, said most guardians want their children to become merely examinees rather than proper students.

“As a result, students are being deprived of education in humanitarian and moral values,” he said.
