11-party alliance convoy reaches Chattogram

A convoy of the 11-party alliance’s long march reached Chattogram on Saturday evening, with the alliance organising the programme to press for six-point demands, including an end to the electricity, oil, gas and fertiliser crises and trial of the July massacre.

The convoy carrying the alliance’s top leaders reached Laldighi Maidan around 7:30pm after travelling for nearly 12 hours from Dhaka.

The long march began from Shapla Chattar in Motijheel around 8:15am with nearly 1,500 vehicles.

Before reaching Chattogram, the convoy held rallies in Siddhirganj in Narayanganj, Paduar Bazar in Cumilla, Feni and Mirsharai.

Local leaders and activists gathered along different points of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway to welcome the convoy. They also welcomed the long march at AK Khan, Pahartali and GEC intersections in Chattogram city, carrying national flags.

Alliance leaders expressed relief that no untoward incident occurred during the journey and thanked the government for taking security measures for the programme.

Top leaders of the 11-party alliance are scheduled to address the concluding rally at Laldighi Maidan. After the rally, activists are expected to return to Dhaka, alliance sources said.

The alliance organised the long march with demands for implementation of the referendum verdict, trial of the July massacre, resolution of the electricity, oil, gas and fertiliser crises, control of rising prices of essentials, an end to extortion and corruption, improvement of law and order, and an end to narrow partisanisation.
