Putin, Modi discuss bilateral cooperation in Delhi

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed defence, energy, trade and other areas of bilateral cooperation during talks in New Delhi.

The two leaders held bilateral talks in New Delhi on Friday, discussing a range of areas of cooperation.

The meeting covered defence, civilian nuclear energy, fertilisers, critical minerals, manufacturing, railways and steel. The two countries also set a target of increasing bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030.

The possible sale of Russia’s fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jets to India and related technology transfer were among the key issues discussed.

The two leaders also discussed continuing India’s imports of Russian crude oil, ensuring secure electricity and energy supplies, and diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

As a gesture of diplomatic goodwill, Modi presented Putin with a Russian translation of the ancient Tamil literary work *Thirukkural*.
