A man and his nephew went out for fishing in the haor, Kishoreganj, early Saturday amidst light rain, but a lightning strike tragically ended their lives.

The incident occurred around 4AM at the Chongnoagaon haor in Sutarpara Union under Karimganj upazila.

The deceased were identified as Shah Alam, 38, son of the late Ishaq Mia, and MokarramHossain, 24, son of Nazrul Islam; both lived in the village of Chongnoagaon.

Locals reported that Shah Alam and Mokarram had gone to the haor in front of the village for fishing with net at dawn. Shortly after, lightning struck the uncle and his nephew. They later fell into the waters and died.

As the morning came, their relatives were anxious for them. Family members started searching them in the haor around 10AM. Eventually, the relatives found their bodies in the knee-deep water.

Deceased MokarramHossain worked at a garment factory in Dhaka; he had recently returned home on leave and got married. Meanwhile, Shah Alam reportedly worked as a laborer transporting paddyon boats.

Md. Soheb Khan, Officer in-Charge (OC) of Karimganj Police Station, stated that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the news of the deaths.

Legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway, he added.
