
A five-member Japanese delegation led by Sugahara Kiyoyuki, Director of Financial Affairs Division of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr A B M Obaidul Islam on Monday.
The meeting, held at the VC’s meeting room, discussed expanding the Japanese Language Program at DU’s Institute of Modern Languages (IML), increasing joint academic and research programmes with Japanese universities and strengthening existing collaborations.
The VC sought Japanese support for lab-based education in AI, biological sciences, software engineering, pharmacy and environmental sciences. He also requested more scholarships for DU students to pursue higher studies in Japan and cooperation in bringing native Japanese teachers to IML.
