College Student Missing, Family Gets Tk 5 Lakh Ransom Demand

A student of BEPZA Public School and College went missing from South Halishahar in Chattogram after leaving home for college. Her family later received a demand for Tk 5 lakh in ransom.

The family said an unknown caller asked them to withdraw a general diary (GD) filed with Bandar Police Station and threatened to harm Mithila if they did not pay the money.

Mithila’s brother Hridoy said she left home wearing her college uniform. After the GD was filed, he received a call from a VoIP number demanding Tk 5 lakh. He informed the investigating officer about the call.

Mithila’s father, Md Nasir Uddin, said, “My daughter left home wearing her college uniform. We have not heard from her since. They demanded Tk 5 lakh online. We agreed to pay Tk 1 lakh, but they did not tell us where to give the money.”

Investigating officer Khairul Bashar Sajid said police were checking all possible clues and examining the ransom call to identify those involved.

Bandar Police Station OC Md Abdur Rahim said police started searching for Mithila after the GD was filed. He said the ransom demand was also being investigated.
