South Indian star Vijay Sethupathi’s hit Tamil film ‘Maharaja’ is set to get a Hollywood remake.
The 2024 thriller, directed by Nithilan Saminathan, is reportedly the first Tamil film to be officially picked for a Hollywood remake.
Oscar-winning American actor Matthew McConaughey is being linked to the lead role, but the casting has not been officially confirmed.
Producer Sudhan Sundaram said they plan to cast a major international star in the main role. A US production company showed interest in the remake soon after the film’s release, and shooting could begin next year if everything goes as planned.
‘Maharaja’ follows an ordinary man who goes to the police to report a missing dustbin. What seems like a simple complaint slowly leads to a dark crime and revenge story.
The cast and crew for the Hollywood version have not yet been announced.
