A three-year-old boy died after drowning in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on Friday morning.
Later, the hospital was allegedly vandalised by the child’s relatives, leaving four to five people, including a doctor, injured.
The deceased was identified as Rafi,03, son of Sabbir from Naodapara village in the upazila.
According to hospital sources, Rafi drowned in water in the morning. His relatives rescued him and took him to the Mirpur Upazila 50-bed Health Complex, where the duty doctor examined him and declared him dead.
After hearing about the child’s death, around 20-25 relatives allegedly became agitated and attacked the attending physician and vandalised parts of the hospital.
Dr Piyush Kumar, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said, "four to five people, including a doctor, were seriously injured in the incident."
Hospital authorities informed Mirpur police about the incident. Investigation Officer Abdul Aziz, along with other police personnel, rushed to the hospital and brought the situation under control.
Hospital authorities are now concerned about their security. Police have assured them that legal action will be taken based on the complaint, he added.
