Two killed in dump truck-CNG collision in Gazipur

Two people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a dump truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kapasia, Gazipur, on Friday morning.

The accident occurred around 9:00 AM in the Bir Uzli Bazar area of Tok Union on the Dhaka-Kishoreganj highway.

One of the deceased was identified as Shamim Mia, 45, of Kendua upazila in Netrokona. He was the driver of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The identity of the other victim and the injured could not be immediately ascertained.

Salna Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahabur Rahman said the auto-rickshaw was travelling towards Kishoreganj from Kapasia with passengers when it collided head-on with the dump truck coming from the opposite direction.

Both vehicles fell off the road following the collision, he said.

One person died on the spot, while another died at Kapasia Upazila Health Complex while undergoing treatment, the OC said.

Four others were injured in the accident, and legal proceedings are under way, he added.
