Father arrested over alleged rape of daughter

Police have arrested a man in Narsingdi on allegations of repeatedly raping his 14-year-old daughter.

The accused, identified as Halim Mia, 35, was arrested from the Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif area in Hathazari of Chattogram on Wednesday (September 16), police said.

According to police, Halim allegedly sexually abused his daughter over a prolonged period and recorded some of the incidents on his mobile phone.

The matter came to light after the victim informed relatives. Her maternal uncle subsequently filed a case with Narsingdi Model Police Station on September 4 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act.

Following the filing of the case, police launched a search for Halim. Investigators initially conducted raids in Narsingdi and Munshiganj but failed to locate him.

Later, police traced his whereabouts to Goainghat in Sylhet and subsequently to Hathazari in Chattogram. A team of the Detective Branch eventually arrested him from the Maizbhandar area.

Police said Halim had allegedly been changing his locations and using disguises to evade arrest.

He was later taken into police custody for questioning. Police said he admitted to the allegations during preliminary interrogation.

The accused is expected to be produced before a court, police said.
