Seven Houthis killed in clashes near Bab el-Mandeb

Seven Houthi fighters, including a senior commander, were killed in clashes with Yemeni government forces near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, according to a Yemeni government official.

Yemen’s Deputy Information Minister Abdulbasit al-Qaedi said Houthi commander Firaq Mohsen al-Assar and six of his aides were killed on the Kahboub front in southwestern Yemen.

The Houthis did not immediately comment on the claim, although activists close to the group mourned al-Assar.

The Kahboub front, which overlooks the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, has witnessed fierce clashes between government forces and the Houthis in recent days.
