Joint drive to combat hoarding and fuel management fraud

Amid the hike in fuel prices, the district administration and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) conducted a joint operation on Tuesday afternoon at petrol pumps in Joypurhat to prevent measurement fraud and illegal stockpiling.

The inspections were carried out at Uttara Filling Station in the Sarak Bhaban area and Joypur Filling Station in the Gulshan Mor area of the town.

The operation was led by Tanvir Ul Alam, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, and Md Asaduzzaman, an engineer and inspector at BSTI. During the drive, the quantities of diesel, octane and petrol dispensed at the filling stations were verified and found to be accurate.

Executive Magistrate Tanvir Ul Alam stated that these inspections are being conducted under government directives to ensure that unscrupulous elements do not exploit the fuel price hike to create artificial shortages or short-change customers by providing less fuel than they paid for. He added that such operations, including mobile court drives, would continue in the public interest.
