Residents urged to keep homes clean to prevent dengue

KHULNA, Sept 23: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju on Wednesday urged residents to maintain clean indoor and surrounding environments to curb the spread of dengue.

“If the internal environments of homes, offices and business establishments can be kept clean, the incidence of dengue fever will decline,” Manju said while addressing a mosquito-net distribution event at the Ward No. 27 office as the chief guest.

He noted that KCC’s ongoing vector-control efforts have successfully reduced mosquito populations in major roadside drains.

With support from World Vision Bangladesh, organisers distributed mosquito nets to 300 low-income families during the morning event. A similar distribution was held on Tuesday for the Christian and Rishi communities in Ward No. 18.

KCC Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman and Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammimul Islam, World Vision Bangladesh Area Programme Manager Surabhee Biswas, former councillors Md Shamsher Ali Mintu and Mazeda Khatun, among others, attended the programme.

Later in the day, Manju distributed mosquito nets to 100 low-income families at the Shaheed Zia College auditorium in Daulatpur. The voluntary organisation Hasimukh Foundation organised the event, presided over by its President, Syed Nausudduzzaman Paltu, with college Principal Md Tariqul Islam as a special guest.
