President urges doctors to help reform health sector

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged leaders of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) to play a stronger role in ensuring healthcare for all and addressing longstanding mismanagement in the country’s health sector.

He made the call when a 20-member DAB delegation led by Chief Adviser Prof Dr Farhad Haleem Donar and President Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid met him at Bangabhaban on Thursday (September 24). 

The President stressed the need for proper planning for recruiting doctors, nurses and technologists, developing healthcare infrastructure and procuring modern medical equipment. He also called for an end to lobbying for promotions and postings and urged that competent people be appointed to appropriate positions. 

He further called for stronger medical research and said unauthorised clinics and diagnostic centres operating across the country must be brought under proper management and control.
