Nahid alleges ‘farce’ in primary teacher recruitment

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam has alleged that the government has set an example of a “farce” in the recruitment of government primary school teachers.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Nahid alleged that at least 1,000 talented young candidates had been denied appointment in the name of intelligence agency verification.
He said the candidates had demonstrated their merit in written and other stages of the recruitment process but were kept in uncertainty for eight months over the verification process. They were eventually denied appointment letters, he alleged.
Nahid claimed that most of those excluded had no criminal cases or general diaries (GDs) filed against them at police stations. He also alleged that there was no information linking them to criminal activities or terrorist groups.
He questioned the transparency and accountability of the process, saying candidates who had successfully completed all stages of recruitment should not be denied jobs on the basis of an unclear verification process.
“If a citizen is denied a job on the basis of opaque verification despite successfully completing all stages of the recruitment process on merit and qualifications, it is not only unfair to the young candidates concerned but also raises questions about the state’s recruitment system,” he said.
Nahid called for the immediate appointment of all candidates against whom there were no specific and lawful allegations.
He also demanded that the process used to exclude candidates and the criteria applied in the verification process be made public.
The government began issuing appointment letters to candidates selected for assistant teacher posts at government primary schools on September 24. Reports have also emerged that some recommended candidates did not receive appointment letters.
