Jamaat leaders arrested in cases over AL rallies: Golam Parwar

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has alleged that Jamaat leaders and activists are being arrested and accused in cases filed over rallies organised by the Awami League.

Speaking to journalists during an organisational visit to Jhenaidah at around 11:30 AM on Friday, Parwar questioned how members of a party whose activities are banned could hold rallies in different districts simultaneously despite the presence of law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies and the administration.

He said the circumstances surrounding the rallies should be investigated. His allegation about Jamaat members being implicated in cases related to the rallies is a claim by the Jamaat leader and was not independently verified.

Parwar also criticised the recent increase in fuel prices, rejecting the government’s arguments over subsidies and losses.

“Is the state a grocery shop that it should calculate profit and loss?” he said, arguing that the state is a constitutional institution intended to serve the public and that its revenue comes from people’s taxes.

He said higher fuel prices affect almost every aspect of daily life, including production, transportation, marketing, agriculture and irrigation.

Parwar also challenged claims by government ministers and leaders that Jamaat-e-Islami was helping bring the Awami League back into the country, saying those making the allegation should provide evidence.

He further alleged that a section within the government and individuals in the administration sympathetic to the Awami League were working to facilitate its return to political activity. These allegations were not independently verified.

Regarding former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s activities from abroad, Parwar said her political activities and the support she receives from India pose a threat to Bangladesh. He also criticised India for allowing Hasina to remain there, saying Delhi was not behaving like a good neighbour toward Bangladesh.

Parwar was the chief guest at a training session organised at the Jhenaidah district Jamaat office.

Jhenaidah Jamaat Ameer and Jhenaidah-2 MP Ali Azam Mohammad Abu Bakar, district secretary Abdul Awal and Kushtia-3 MP Mufti Amir Hamza, among others, attended the programme.
