Pakistan, Türkiye near joining Saudi war against Houthis

Pakistan and Türkiye are nearing a decision on possible involvement in Saudi Arabia’s war against the Houthis, with the two countries’ military chiefs heading to Riyadh for an urgent meeting on the implementation of a trilateral defence pact.

Türkiye’s Chief of General Staff Gen Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu is travelling to Saudi Arabia, while Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir is also expected to arrive in Riyadh soon, according to the report.

The urgent meeting follows repeated Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi territory. Under the Makkah Joint Defence Pact signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye on August 7, an attack on any one of the three countries is considered an attack on all three.

However, Pakistan and Türkiye remain cautious about directly sending troops to the conflict. The Houthis have also warned that Pakistan and Türkiye would face retaliation if they join the war.
