Ansar member's gunshot injures cleaner at Osmani Airport

A cleaner was injured after an Ansar member fired a shot to scare away birds at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred on the airport runway around 10 AM, said airport Director Hafiz Ahmed.

He said the shooting was accidental and not intentional.

“The bullet hit his flesh. He is currently out of danger,” Hafiz said.

The injured cleaner was identified as Rubel Ahmed. He is receiving treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Witnesses said Ansar member Mozammel was patrolling the runway in a vehicle when he fired a shot from a shotgun to scare away birds. The bullet struck Rubel, who was nearby, in the waist.

A witness claimed that the rules require an Ansar member to get out of the vehicle before firing to scare away birds. However, Mozammel allegedly fired the shot while sitting inside the vehicle.
