Ramisa’s father visits attorney general’s office for case update

Abdul Hannan Molla, father of child rape and murder victim Ramisa Akter, met Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal on Saturday to learn about the progress of the case.
Hannan met the attorney general at his office on September 26.
The attorney general said the High Court is scheduled to hear the death reference and appeals in the case against Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Khatun, who were sentenced to death by a Dhaka tribunal on June 7.
The death reference and related case documents have already been sent to the High Court, while the convicts' appeals against the death sentences have also been accepted for hearing.
The attorney general expressed respect for Ramisa and deep sympathy for her family, saying the judicial process would proceed according to law.
Ramisa, a second-grade student, was raped and killed in Pallabi on May 19. Her father filed a case with Pallabi Police Station over the incident.
The investigation officer, Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector Ahiduzzaman, submitted the charge sheet against Sohel and his wife on May 25. The case was then sent to the tribunal for trial.
The tribunal formally began the trial on June 1 after framing charges against the two accused. The prosecution examined 16 witnesses on June 2, completing the recording of evidence in a single day.
The accused were examined under Section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on June 3.
On June 7, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Children's Violence Suppression Tribunal sentenced Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Khatun to death. Sohel was also fined Tk 500,000 and Swapna Tk 200,000.
