16-year-old girl found hanging from ceiling fan in Chattogram

A 16-year-old girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Anwara upazila of Chattogram on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Tasfia Khanam Eva, daughter of Md Ismail of Dudhkumra area under Barshat Union.

Police recovered her body from her home around 7:30 PM.

According to police, family members found Eva hanging from the ceiling fan around 5:00 PM and informed them. Later, police went to the house and recovered the body.

Eva was a student at a local women’s madrasa. She studied in Class Eight last year and enrolled in Class Nine this year. However, she could not continue her studies due to her family’s financial difficulties.

Police said there had been no known dispute between Eva and her family members. However, they initially suspected that she may have taken the step following an argument or grievance with her mother.

Eva was the fourth of five siblings—four sisters and a brother. Her brother is currently abroad for work.

The family requested that details of the incident not be published, saying it was a private family matter.

Md Majnu Mia, inspector (investigation) of Anwara Police Station, said police recovered the body after receiving information through a village police member.

The body is being sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Police are preparing to file an unnatural death case over the incident.
