Police arrest banned AL leader Hosne Ara

Police have arrested Advocate Hosne Ara Bokul, former female vice-chairperson of Adarsho Sadar Upazila Parishad and leader of the banned Awami League, in connection with multiple violent assault cases during the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Lutfar Rahman confirmed the arrest on Sunday (September 27) morning. A team from Kotwali Model Police Station conducted a drive at Bokul's residence in the Bagichagaon area of the city on Saturday (September 26) night to apprehend her after she had been absconding for a long period.

Police reported that Bokul faces multiple cases involving attacks and torture targeting students during the 2024 anti-discrimination movement.

Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Anwar stated that she is also accused of recently plotting anti-government activities and sabotage. She was forwarded to the court on Sunday following her arrest.

Bokul was elected female vice-chairperson of Adarsho Sadar Upazila Parishad uncontested in the 2014 Upazila Parishad elections. Known as a close associate of former Cumilla Sadar MP Haji Bahar, she has long been actively involved in Awami League politics.
