All major rivers below danger level, rain forecast for three days

Water levels in all major rivers across Bangladesh are currently flowing below their respective danger levels, while light to moderate rain is forecast in the country and adjoining upstream areas over the next three days.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said this in its rainfall, river situation and forecast report on Sunday.

The centre said the land depression over Chhattisgarh and adjoining north-east Madhya Pradesh had moved north-northwest and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas. It is likely to move further north-northwest and gradually weaken.

Water levels in the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river system fell over the past 24 hours. The Brahmaputra is likely to continue falling over the next five days, while the Jamuna may fall for two days before remaining stable for the following three days.

Water levels in the Ganges-Padma river system also fell over the past 24 hours. They may remain stable for the next two days before rising over the following three days.

In the northern region, the Teesta's water level fell over the past 24 hours, while the Dudhkumar rose and the Dharla remained stable. Water levels in the Teesta, Dudhkumar and Dharla are likely to fall over the next three days.

In the north-east, water levels in the Surma-Kushiyara river system also fell over the past 24 hours. Both rivers are expected to continue falling over the next three days.
