Cleanliness drive to combat dengue, chikungunya in Khulna

A cleanliness drive was conducted at Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) to raise awareness about preventing the spread of dengue and chikungunya and to maintain a clean campus environment. The program was held separately at the university's Temporary Campus-1 and 2.

The university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar, attended the events as the chief guest—at 11:00 AM at Temporary Campus-1 and at 12:00 PM at Temporary Campus-2. He personally participated in the cleaning activities and directly led the entire campaign.

The program saw the participation of the university's Registrar (Acting), Md. Rezaul Islam, deans of various faculties, teachers and students from different departments, as well as officers and staff members. Initiatives were taken to remove accumulated waste from various parts of the campus, clear potential mosquito breeding grounds, and ensure a clean environment.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar said, "Dengue has reached an alarming level in various regions of Bangladesh, including Khulna. Hospitals are overcrowded with patients. Many teachers, students, officers, and staff members of our university have been affected by dengue. Keeping the environment clean is essential to prevent the disease."

He added, "We have initiated this program to keep our campus clean and safe, in line with the directives of the University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB)."

University authorities stated that regular cleanliness drives would continue on campus to prevent dengue and chikungunya, alongside efforts to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds. Teachers, students, officers, and staff have been urged to remain conscious and responsible in ensuring that water does not stagnate anywhere on the premises.
