Four injured in clash between Ansar members and hawkers

Four hawkers, including two women, were injured in a clash with Ansar members in Ashulia on Sunday, according to the hawkers.
The incident took place around 11:00 AM in the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) and Balibhadra areas of Ashulia, Savar.
Local hawkers said they had long been selling various goods beside the footpaths in the area. They alleged that Ansar members of the DEPZ had recently been preventing them from doing business there, leading to tension between the two sides.
The hawkers said they wanted to continue their businesses while leaving enough space for pedestrians. However, when Ansar members went to remove them from the footpath on Sunday morning, an argument broke out and later turned into a clash.
The hawkers alleged that at least four of them, including two women, were injured in the clash. They said the injured received treatment locally.
Following the clash, the hawkers blocked the road and staged a protest march, disrupting traffic in the area for some time.
Several hawkers also alleged that Ansar members had demanded money from them. They claimed the attack took place after they refused to pay.
No statement was available from the Ansar members regarding the allegation of extortion. Attempts to contact them for comment were unsuccessful.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident.
