PDB engineer suspended over viral Tk2cr bribe video

Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) Executive Engineer Md Nurul Amin has been suspended after a video allegedly showing him demanding Tk2 crore in a financial transaction went viral on social media.

PDB’s Investigation and Discipline Directorate issued an order on Monday suspending Nurul, who is posted at the Sales and Distribution Division in Lakshmipur, under Rule 141(1) of the PDB Employees Service Rules, 1982.

The video, circulated on social media on Sunday night, allegedly shows Nurul discussing project materials, contractors’ bills and financial transactions. At one point, he is heard saying, “I will not take less than Tk2 crore.”

PDB Chairman Md Rezaul Karim said the official was suspended immediately after the board learned about the video and that a formal investigation had been ordered.

He said necessary action would be taken after the investigation is completed.
