Iran says no plans to negotiate with US

Iran’s delegation to the UN General Assembly has no plans for new negotiations with the United States, Iranian state media reported Monday (September 28), despite US President Donald Trump saying he expected talks to resume soon.

The official IRNA news agency, citing a source close to Iran’s delegation in New York, said Tehran had already conveyed its position to Washington through a Qatari mediator and was waiting for a response.

Trump said on Sunday that he expected further talks with Iran this week, a day after rejecting Tehran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, however, said Iran remains ready for negotiations and is awaiting an official response through mediators.

Tehran has linked reopening the strategic waterway to conditions including a regional ceasefire, the lifting of oil sanctions and an end to the US naval blockade, according to Iranian officials.
