UN peacekeeper Troman Khisa laid to rest

Bangladesh Navy peacekeeper Troman Khisa was laid to rest with full military honours in his home village in Rangamati on Monday (September 28), following his death while serving in a UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

A Bangladesh Navy contingent accorded him a guard of honour and placed wreaths on his coffin during the funeral ceremony, which was conducted according to Buddhist religious rites at Ramhari Para in Naniarchar upazila.

Khisa, an EA-3 of the Bangladesh Navy, was critically injured by electrocution on September 20 while serving with the BANFMU-11 contingent in South Sudan. He later died while undergoing treatment at an Indian field hospital. His body was brought to Dhaka on Sunday and subsequently taken to his ancestral home in Rangamati.

Following the funeral, the Bangladesh Navy and UN flags, his cap and medal were handed over to his wife. The UN mission leadership also paid tribute to Khisa for his contribution to the peacekeeping mission.

Khisa was born in 1987 in Ramhari Para of Naniarchar and joined the Bangladesh Navy as a sailor on July 1, 2006. Navy officials, military and civilian representatives, family members and local dignitaries attended the funeral.
