Govt committed to safe, festive Durga puja: Religious Minister

The government is committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful and festive environment for the celebration of Durga Puja 2026 across the country, Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Shamim Kaiser said.

He made the remarks at an inter-ministerial preparatory meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Tuesday.

The minister stressed stronger security measures at puja mandaps, particularly during idol immersion, as the number of venues has increased.

He also urged authorities to prevent rumours on social media, verify information quickly and take legal action against those spreading misinformation. He called for impartial investigations and swift punishment for anyone involved in incidents that could harm communal harmony.
