PM's India visit hinges on conducive conditions

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman may visit India once a conducive environment for the trip is created, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said on Tuesday.

“We are positive about it,” he told reporters after a courtesy meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi. The two sides held a “very good, cordial and fruitful” discussion, he said, adding that existing challenges would be addressed through dialogue.

Asked about the possible timing of the visit, Kabir said discussions on the date would begin once the two countries reach a mutually conducive position.

Regarding reports that the prime minister could visit India in November, he said, “Discussions are ongoing. I do not talk about rumours; I talk about reality.”

Kabir said Tuesday’s meeting was positive and expressed hope that it would produce positive results soon.
