BSEC approves Tk 3,500cr bonds of five banks

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has approved bonds worth around Tk 3,500 crore for five listed banks.
The decision was announced in a press release signed by BSEC Executive Director and spokesperson Md Abul Kalam on Tuesday.
One Bank has received approval to issue a Tk 400 crore Tier-2 subordinated bond, while Southeast Bank has been approved to issue an Tk 800 crore seven-year subordinated bond.
BRAC Bank received approval for a Tk 1,000 crore three-year zero-coupon green bond. The funds will be used to provide low-cost green financing to eligible customers.
Al-Arafah Islami Bank has been approved to issue a Tk 500 crore seven-year subordinated bond, while Bank Asia received approval for an Tk 800 crore seven-year sustainable subordinated bond.
The bonds will be issued through private placements, with the proceeds mainly aimed at strengthening the banks’ Tier-2 capital bases. Bank Asia will also use its proceeds to finance and refinance green and sustainable projects.
Meanwhile, BSEC has decided to give no-objection approval to the proposed nine-member board of Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC following the company’s application and in view of oral directions from the High Court.
The proposed board will include three sponsor directors, one new managing director, one director from a local financial institution and four independent directors, including one woman.
BSEC also decided to withdraw its orders dated December 31, 2024 and January 15, 2026, subject to the company withdrawing its case.
