The government has cancelled the facility that allowed businesses to submit VAT returns and pay applicable taxes once every three months.
As a result, businesses will once again have to submit VAT returns and pay the applicable taxes every month under the previous rules.
The draft amendment was approved at the 22nd Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday (September 28), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The Cabinet Division confirmed the matter in a press release.
According to the release, the draft was presented at the initiative of the Internal Resources Division to amend Section 64 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012.
Under the proposed amendment, instead of submitting a return within 15 days after every three tax periods, businesses will now have to submit their VAT returns within 15 days after the end of each tax period.
