Stocks fall for fourth straight session, DSE turnover drops to Tk 634 crore

Bangladesh’s stock market extended its losing streak for a fourth consecutive trading session on Tuesday, with most listed companies witnessing price declines and turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) falling to the Tk 600 crore range.

The DSE’s benchmark DSEX index fell 1 point to 5,524. The DS30 index, comprising 30 leading companies, declined 3 points to 2,094, while the DSES index lost 2 points to 1,098.

Trading started on a positive note, with most shares gaining in the opening hours. However, the market reversed course during the final hour, with the major indices ending lower.

Of the 395 companies and mutual funds traded on the DSE, 178 saw their prices fall, while 142 gained and 75 remained unchanged.

Turnover stood at Tk 634.52 crore, down Tk 111.94 crore from the previous session’s Tk 746.46 crore.

Saiham Textile led the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 33.71 crore changing hands, followed by IPDC Finance at Tk 21.67 crore and Saiham Cotton at Tk 18.50 crore.

Other companies among the top 10 in turnover included Paramount Textile, Orion Infusion, Sharp Industries, Apex Spinning, Reliance Insurance, BRAC Bank and Malek Spinning.

At the Chittagong Stock Exchange, 82 of the 170 traded companies saw their share prices decline, while 66 gained and 22 remained unchanged. The CASPI index fell 5 points, while turnover rose to Tk 25.31 crore from Tk 10.73 crore in the previous session.
