29 expatriates to vote by postal ballot in Thakurgaon-1 by-election

Twenty-nine expatriate voters from 12 countries have applied to vote by postal ballot in the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, and ballot papers have already been sent to them.

According to officials of the Election Commission’s election management branch, five voters from the United States, four each from Malaysia, the United Kingdom and Canada, and two each from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Australia registered for postal voting.

One voter each registered from Germany, Italy, Portugal and Austria.

The EC had invited applications through the Postal Vote BD app from September 12 to 20.

Domestic voters, election officials and government employees who wish to vote by postal ballot can register until October 8. So far, 123 voters within the country have applied.

Six candidates have had their nomination papers declared valid. Appeals can be filed until October 4, with their disposal scheduled for October 6. The deadline for withdrawal is October 7, while electoral symbols will be allocated on October 8.

Voting in the Thakurgaon-1 by-election is scheduled for October 29.
