ACC asks ex-DIG Pralay for asset statement

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved an order requiring former Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Pralay Kumar Joardar to submit a statement of his assets and filed a case against former International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL) director Md Nausherul Islam for allegedly concealing assets and acquiring wealth beyond his known sources of income.

ACC Assistant Director Md Tanzir Ahmed confirmed the developments on Wednesday.

The commission found preliminary evidence that Pralay Kumar acquired assets worth Tk92,14,872 beyond his known sources of income, while similar evidence emerged against his late wife, Biplabi Rani, involving Tk35,56,734.

The ACC approved the asset statement order under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, following a preliminary inquiry into allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.

Pralay Kumar has also been accused of involvement in extortion and smuggling and laundering allegedly illicit funds to acquire residential properties at home and abroad.

Following the change in political power, a lawyer petitioned the ACC seeking an investigation into allegations that Pralay Kumar owned six houses in four countries.

Meanwhile, the ACC filed the case against Nausherul Islam on Wednesday at its Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1, under Sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
