woman killed after run over by train in Lalmonirhat

An unidentified woman was killed after being hit by the Karatoa Express train in Lalmonirhat on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3:00 PM in the Purba Dauljor area of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.

Locals suspect that the woman may have died by suicide after jumping in front of the moving train.

According to locals, the Karatoa Express left Lalmonirhat Railway Station for Burimari around 3:00 PM. When the train reached the Purba Dauljor area, the woman suddenly stepped onto the railway track from beside the line. She was struck by the moving train and died on the spot.

The train remained stopped for some time after the accident before resuming its journey.

On information, police from Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station visited the scene and prepared an inquest report on the body.

Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman said, "police went to the scene after receiving the information. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased woman and locate her relatives."

If her identity cannot be established, the body will be sent to the morgue for an autopsy after completing the necessary legal procedures, he added.
