BNP has asked recently resigned reserved-seat MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misti to resign from the party’s primary membership, according to party sources.
The instruction came after Misti resigned from Parliament on the directive of Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, the sources said on Friday (October 2).
The party’s organisational decision reportedly followed allegations of involvement in an attack, vandalism, looting and demolition at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur.
Misti resigned from her reserved parliamentary seat on Thursday (October 1) after Tarique Rahman directed her to step down. Her resignation was subsequently accepted and the seat was declared vacant.
In her resignation letter, Misti said she had decided to resign from Parliament voluntarily and with full awareness, without citing any reason.
Speaking to reporters at Parliament, she had said the Radda incident should be investigated and whatever emerges from the investigation should be accepted. Asked about possible party action, she said she would abide by the BNP’s decision.
The allegations against Misti remain under investigation, and she has denied involvement in the incident.
No formal BNP statement on her resignation from the party’s primary membership had been made public as of Friday evening.
