The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), in separate raids on Tuesday, arrested six people with various narcotics from Brahmanbaria and Jashore districts.
BRAHMANBARIA: Four people were arrested with 270 grams of hemp during a raid in the district on Tuesday, the DNC said.
The arrestees Wasim Mia, 40, Khairul Mia, 28, Md Ershad, 30, and Azizul Hakim, 23, were detained in separate areas under Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station. A mobile court later sentenced them to varying terms of imprisonment without labour and fined them, officials said.
The arrests and seizures were confirmed by Sajedul Hasan, deputy director of the District DNC. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Prince Sarker handed down the sentences.
JASHORE: The DNC arrested two alleged drug dealers, including a 60-year-old woman known as “Manjura Buri,” and seized 1,270 yaba tablets during a raid in Bagherpara Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The DNC arrested Manjura and her associate Shiuli Begum, 50, after searching a Jashore-bound “Narail Express” bus from Dhaka on the Jashore-Narail highway near Karimpur Secondary School in Jamdia Union of Bagherpara. The DNC also seized a mobile phone. A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against the two, officials said.
