GAIBANDHA, Oct 2: State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam on Thursday said the government was taking practical steps under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership to address the power, gas and fuel crises it had inherited.
“The people gave the BNP their wholehearted support in the last parliamentary election. At the same time, the current government has had to inherit the power, gas and fuel crises left by the ousted fascist government,” he told journalists at a views-exchange meeting at the Gaibandha Circuit House at noon.
He said the government had sincerely apologised to the people in parliament for the unavoidable crisis and sought their forgiveness.
“But to overcome the crisis, the government is taking various practical measures under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman,” he said.
The state minister alleged that the previous Awami League government had created unprecedented disparities in development across the country, leaving districts such as Gaibandha neglected and deprived of development.
He said no district would face discrimination under the current government.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is fully committed to ensuring balanced development across the country,” Shahe Alam said.
After the press briefing, the state minister held a views exchange meeting with leaders and activists of Gaibandha District BNP and its affiliated organisations.
District BNP President and District Council Administrator Dr Moinul Hasan Sadiq, General Secretary Mahmudunnabi Titu and BNP's Rangpur Divisional Assistant Organising Secretary Aminul Islam, among others, attended the meeting.
Later, Shahe Alam attended a district law and order committee meeting.
