Two persons were found dead in separate incidents in Bagerhat District and Kamalnagar Upazila of Laxmipur District on Friday.

BAGERHAT: A former union parishad (UP) member, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 62, was found dead at his home in Fakhirhat Upazila of the district on Friday morning.

Police recovered his decomposed body from a room at his home in Pagladia Para, Ward No. 5 of Sadar Union, after residents reported a foul smell from the house and spotted the body through a window. Locals said they last saw Rahman on Tuesday evening.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fakhirhat Model Police Station (PS) Md Rajiullah Khan said Rahman was living alone. The body was sent to Bagerhat District Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The cause of death has not yet been determined; police said the autopsy report will establish the circumstances.

KAMALNAGAR, LAXMIPUR: Police recovered the hanging body of a 36-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from his in-laws’ home in Kamalnagar Upazila of the district on Friday morning, amid local suspicion surrounding the death.

Deceased Md Jewel was the son of Siddik Ullah from Keraniganj of Dhaka. Jewel, a father of one, had been living at his wife Surma Akhter’s family home in Charfalkon Union for the past eight years following their marriage.

According to police and family accounts, the couple had been experiencing recent domestic disputes. Surma Akhter claimed that following a late-night argument on Thursday, she slept in her mother’s room with their child and discovered Jewel hanging from a beam in the veranda on Friday morning.

However, locals raised doubts over the suicide theory, noting that the victim’s body was touching the ground and the veranda’s low ceiling matched his height, prompting demands for a thorough investigation.

Kamalnagar PS OC Faridul Alam said the body has been sent to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Legal action will follow after getting the autopsy report.
