KAHAROL, DINAJPUR, Oct 2: Aman paddy fields across the six unions of Kaharol Upazila are now lush green, as farmers remain busy tending their crops and hoping for a good harvest.
Farmers in different villages are spending busy days taking care of their Aman fields. Some are spraying pesticides in the morning to protect the crops from pests, while others apply pesticides in the afternoon.
The fields have turned greener following rainfall over the past few days, raising hopes among farmers for a good yield.
Naeem Hossain, an Aman grower in Dabor Union, said the shortage of rain during Bhadra forced farmers to irrigate their fields.
“This will increase production costs,” he said.
Anisur Rahman, a farmer in Sundarpur Union, said the recent rains had made the Aman plants fresh, healthy and greener.
“The Aman fields are swaying in the breeze,” he said.
According to the KaharoI Upazila agriculture office, Aman paddy has been cultivated on 15,349 hectares of land in the upazila this season, four hectares more than last year.
KaharoI Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Zahidur Rahman said farmers had received adequate government incentives this season.
“Currently, the incidence of diseases and pests in the fields is low. We are advising farmers on how to prevent and control them,” he said.
He added that sub-assistant agriculture officers were providing farmers with necessary support and advice at the field level.
