Gulistan and Fulbaria bus terminals in the capital will be relocated to Chunkutia in Keraniganj within three months, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said on Saturday.
He said work has started on a temporary depot on 10 acres of land at the Jhilmil Project in Chunkutia. The buses will be shifted there once the work is completed.
Speaking to reporters during an inspection of traffic management at Mohakhali Bus Terminal, he said another 75 acres may later be allocated through RAJUK for a permanent terminal and depot.
“A multimodal transport hub will eventually be developed there. Buses from 19 southern districts, as well as trucks including those serving the Badamtoli wholesale market, will gradually be relocated there,” he said.
He said the temporary relocation of Gulistan and Fulbaria terminals is expected to be completed within three months.
Pabna-5 MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas said people are fed up with traffic congestion and disorder in the transport sector, and changes are needed.
Additional DMP Commissioner (Traffic) Anisur Rahman, transport owners and labour leaders were also present.
