Israel’s defence equipment exports rose 130 per cent over the past five years, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerging as one of its largest buyers, according to a report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
The report, titled Defence Dividends of the Abraham Accords, said Israel’s defence exports rose from $8.3 billion in 2020 to $19.2 billion in 2025.
The UAE, Bahrain and Morocco, all signatories to the Abraham Accords, have become important buyers of Israeli defence equipment, with the UAE purchasing the most among the three.
In 2022, Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems sold the UAE the SPYDER-MR medium-range air defence system. Other Israeli companies, including Elbit Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, also exported defence equipment and technology to the UAE that year.
The two countries have also expanded cooperation beyond arms sales. UAE-based EDGE has invested in at least eight Israeli companies, while companies from both countries are working on counter-drone systems, air defence and cybersecurity technologies.
The IISS report said ties between Israel and the UAE have grown closer following the conflict with Iran and Iranian attacks on the UAE.
Israeli defence companies have also opened offices in the UAE and are increasingly cooperating with Emirati firms on weapons technology development and research.
