The government has approved a proposal to reschedule the Durga Puja holidays, keeping October 17 as a working day and declaring October 22 a holiday.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Monday.
According to the decision, October 20 to 22 will be holidays for Durga Puja. October 20 is a holiday for Maha Navami, while October 21 is a public holiday for Vijaya Dashami. October 22 will also be a holiday under an executive order.
October 23 and 24 are weekly holidays, resulting in a five-day break from October 20 to 24.
As October 17 falls on a Saturday, the government has decided to keep offices open on that day before the five-day holiday.
This year, Mahalaya will be observed on October 10, followed by Maha Shashthi on October 16, Maha Saptami on October 18, Maha Ashtami on October 19, Maha Navami on October 20 and Vijaya Dashami on October 21.
