The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has ordered 180 officials to conduct field-level inspections of primary education activities across different upazilas and police stations nationwide.

The directive was issued based on a decision taken at the DPE’s monthly coordination meeting for August, with the officials tasked with assessing, reviewing and monitoring primary education activities on the ground.

An office order issued on September 28 included a list of the officials and their assigned upazilas and police stations across different districts. They have been instructed to complete their field visits and submit reports by November 5.

DPE Director (Joint Secretary) Md Masud Hossain signed the office order on October 5.

Under the order, the director general, additional director general, directors and other senior officials of the DPE may visit any upazila in the country. Officials and employees from different divisions of the directorate have also been assigned specific upazilas and police stations.

The assigned areas include upazilas in districts such as Joypurhat, Bogura, Naogaon, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Sirajganj, Pabna, Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga and Jhenaidah.

Officials must obtain prior approval from the director of their respective divisions before travelling to their assigned areas. Directors will authorise officials under their supervision to leave their workplaces for field inspections on a phased basis.

According to the order, officials from the DPE’s stipend division will visit the primary education office in their assigned upazila or police station and inspect three government primary schools in the area.

Of the three schools, one must be selected from an urban area and two from rural areas through random sampling.

Officials from the stipend division will have to stay in their assigned areas for two days to conduct inspections, reviews and observations.

Officials from other divisions of the DPE will inspect two government primary schools in their assigned areas—one urban and one rural school, also selected through random sampling. They will conduct a one-day field visit for the inspection.

After completing the inspections, officials must prepare detailed reports in the prescribed format and submit them to the DPE’s stipend division within five working days of completing their field visits.

A copy proving submission of the report must also be attached to their TA/DA bills.

The order said officials would be entitled to travel and daily allowances (TA/DA) from their respective salary heads in accordance with existing rules.

Officials currently attached to the DPE on deputation or other arrangements will have to collect their TA/DA bills from the relevant field-level offices.

All 180 officials have been instructed to complete their assigned field inspections and submit their reports within the stipulated deadline.
