Five people, including three children, were killed when the lower floors of a building collapsed in Istanbul, Türkiye, early Thursday.
The last missing person’s body was recovered at 6:15am local time on Friday, bringing the search and rescue operation to an end, according to the city authorities.
The victims included two girls aged five and 10 and a 12-year-old boy. Nine people were rescued alive from the rubble.
The building’s lower three floors collapsed, while the four upper floors remained suspended above the debris.
Istanbul Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan told reporters that the building was constructed in 1987. Its basement, ground floor and first and second floors were built in accordance with the construction regulations in force at the time, while the upper floors were added later.
